A front-ender’s stumble into hybrid mobile apps
The idea behind hybrid apps is that they are coded once and deployable across different platforms. It is often used to cut down costs and development time required to create and deploy a feature or change. If you’re an avid user of JS, you’re going to want to check out the latest installment from (what I’m pretty sure is) the largest annual user survey of the language. Some highlights include: Svelte is officially more popular than React, almost all JS devs are now VS Code or bust, and everyone wants static typing. read()
💲 Putting food on the table while giving away code. The creator of curl (or cURL if you’d rather) wrote about his decades-long search for finding a way to keep his wildly popular free service free while working on it himself full-time. What he found as a solution is one example of the various positive developments starting to crack through the complicated conundrum that is open-source software. read()
⌨️ Go’s getting generics. Whether you like it or not, it’s pretty much now official that the Go programming language is evolving. This week, its maintainers moved the generics typing feature to the language proposal phase and announced a release with a “perhaps not fully optimized” version of generics should come by the end of the year. In December, Steve Francia, an engineer on the Go team at Google, talked a bit about why this is a big (and delicate) deal:
Adding generics is a challenging task on its own, but we also want it to still feel like Go, meaning that using generics increases readability. That’s a very hard thing to do and something some of our key people have been thinking about for more than 10 years.

"Svelte is officially more popular than React"
That's quite misleading... among people who use Svelte, it has slightly higher satisfaction rating (89% vs 88%). React is both used more than Svelte (80% vs 15%) and more people are aware of it (100% vs 86%).
